London Borough of Camden Public Art Policy Review

Modus Operandi was appointed to review the London Borough of Camden’s Public Art Policy and make recommendations for policy development and implementation.  The benefits of creating a public art plan for the Borough were considered and current mechanisms and public art spend through Section 106 Agreements was reviewed.  Consultation and discussion were key to the review process, and staff from the Planning, Open Spaces and Leisure & Community departments were involved.  Recommendations from the report include a cross-departmental officer working group, a Public Art Panel with external expertise, a new illustrated Supplementary Planning Guidance Directive for Public Art, a new Public Art Trust Fund, and adoption of Percent for Art mechanisms for selected in-house schemes as well as applying the Percent principle to other investors.
