Modus Operandi and GPE are proud to present 'Orbit', a public artwork by Alexandre da Cunha as part of GPE’s development at 2 Aldermanbury Square, London, designed by Allies & Morrison.

Curated by Modus Operandi, Orbit is integrated into the architecture at three levels of the city development, which includes enhancement of the raised City Walkway to create a new link and gateway to the Culture Mile.

“The geometric forms of Orbit span three levels of the building’s exterior, which provides a variety of viewpoints, yet avoids revealing the artwork in its entirety. The overlapping circles suggest themes of astrology or stargazing.

At its centre, overhead, is a constellation of recessed footprints. This playful inversion, from the floor to the ceiling, evokes a new disorientating perspective and invites a reflection on our journeys through the City.

The physical indentation of the footprints alludes to the idea of the ground as a surface that records the traces of the past, from ancient archaeological remains to the marks we make on our daily commute.”
