Modus Operandi was appointed to curate and manage an art commission for the Bereavement Centre at Guy’s Hospital as one of a series of commissions for the refurbished departments within Guy's Tower.  Through consultation with the Centre's staff, the selected artist, Marta Marcé, created an artwork that represents the transformation of energies through an abstract design that incorporates flowing waves, circles and spirographically inspired patterns.  The artwork consists of several elements: wall mounted ceramic discs, a design applied to the interior glazing, a large spirograph drawing and a series of watercolours.

The circular ceramic works refer to the different kinds of energy from which all matter derives. A wave design flows across two walls, appearing on the large print and the glazing.  The use of a spirograph (an instrument that also records the movement of breathing) in the drawing is intended to reflect the evolving journey of life.  Together, these works animate the Centre's walls.

This commission was curated and managed by Modus Operandi, as part of the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity’s Art Commissioning Programme.
