The look-out bench originated during a brief encounter with Iain Sinclair where I described the contradiction that appealed to me of the idea of the Victorian conversation chair that used to occupy the centre of a room, and the solitariness of the bench in a public space. He expressed his wish for a place from which to ‘read’ the urban context as a living entity rather than words in memory of something or someone. Drawing © Eric Parry |
